The methodology

Teachers will learn in small groups of 2-5 colleagues, meeting once a week for 4 weeks. Sessions are 1.5 hours and can be in-person or online.

Course syllabus

Session 1: The Mentorship Mindset: Foundations and Trust

  • Explore the purpose and mindset of modern mentorship
  • Reflect on personal stories and define core mentorship values
  • Learn how to build trust and establish strong mentor-mentee matches

Session 2: Setting Goals and Bringing Mentorship to Life

  • Understand and apply SMART goal-setting in mentoring
  • Turn mentorship ideas into action through active engagement strategies
  • Practice real-world mentorship through role-play and shared reflection

Session 3: Overcoming Roadblocks and Sustaining Growth

  • Identify common mentorship challenges and how to address them with resilience
  • Engage in collaborative problem-solving and case study analysis
  • Plan for continuous growth with a personal learning roadmap

Session 4: Your Mentorship Legacy – Reflection, Action, and Celebration

  • Reflect on the mentorship journey and identify key growth moments
  • Create a personal action plan for future leadership and mentoring
  • Celebrate achievements and commit to a long-term mentorship mission

Dr. Matthew X. Joseph is the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning in New Bedford MA. He is also the CEO of X-Factor EDU consulting and publishing. Experiences such as Executive Director of Teaching and Learning, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Digital Learning and Innovation, elementary school principal, classroom teacher, and district professional development specialist have provided Matt with incredible insights on how to best support teaching and learning and led to nationally published articles and opportunities to speak at multiple state and national events.
