About the course
This practical, collaborative course helps educators embed social-emotional learning (SEL) into everyday academic instruction. Teachers adapt their own curriculum materials to include SEL components, receive peer feedback, implement redesigned lessons, and track student outcomes. The workshop concludes with a collection of subject-specific strategies for meaningful and sustainable SEL integration.
How it works
You will join a group of 2 to 5 colleagues, and as a group, you will meet 4 times, either in person or online, at a time you all agree on.

Course syllabus
Session 1: Foundations of SEL-Infused Instruction
- • Understand the core competencies of SEL and their relevance across subject areas
- • Identify opportunities for integrating SEL into existing curriculum materials
- • Begin redesigning a lesson or unit with clear SEL objectives
Session 2: Peer Review and Feedback
- • Share SEL-integrated lessons with peers for review and refinement
- • Strengthen alignment between academic goals and SEL outcomes
- • Finalize lesson plans for classroom implementation
Session 3: Implementation and Outcome Tracking
- • Implement redesigned lessons in the classroom
- • Track and reflect on student engagement, behavior, and emotional responses
- • Analyze impact using student work, observations, or feedback
Session 4: Building Subject-Specific SEL Strategies
- • Share outcomes and reflect on the challenges and successes of integration
- • Identify effective SEL strategies by subject area and grade level
- • Develop a personal plan for ongoing SEL integration in teaching practice
