Assessment: Feedback that Fuels Learning

This workshop is designed to support elementary teachers in transforming assessment into a powerful driver of learning. Throughout the four sessions, participants will rethink traditional assessment approaches, develop skills in providing effective feedback, explore peer and self-assessment strategies, and create systems for embedding meaningful feedback in everyday classroom life. Teachers will leave with practical tools to shift their assessment practices from judgment-focused to growth-oriented, creating learning environments where feedback becomes a natural, meaningful part of every student's learning journey and contributes to increased student ownership and engagement.

The methodology
Teachers will learn in small groups of 2-5 colleagues, meeting once a week for 4 weeks. Sessions are 1.5 hours and can be in-person or online.

Session 1: Rethinking Assessment - Shifting from Judgment to Growth
- • Explore the purpose of assessment in a learner-centered classroom
- • Reflect on current practices and identify barriers to meaningful feedback
- • Dive into formative assessment as a tool to drive learning - not just measure it
Session 2: The Art of Giving Effective Feedback
- • Learn how to craft feedback that is timely, specific, and aligned with learning goals
- • Explore different types of feedback and their impact on student learning
- • Practice giving feedback that promotes self-efficacy and provides clear next steps
Session 3: Empowering Learners through Peer and Self-Assessment
- • Explore strategies to involve students in the feedback loop
- • Focus on self-assessment routines that develop metacognitive skills
- • Practice peer feedback protocols that help learners become reflective, independent thinkers
