AI for education

Learn to use generative AI to plan lessons, create teaching resources, and assess effectively.

About the course
This 6-session course is designed for teachers, school leaders, and education assistants with no prior experience in artificial intelligence. Participants will learn to work with tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini effectively, ethically, and safely.
Throughout the course, they will develop practical skills to integrate AI into their pedagogical work: from lesson planning and resource creation to designing assessments and giving students personalized feedback.
Each week they will work with their learning circle on hands-on activities they can apply directly in their classroom.
How it works
You will join a group of 2 to 5 colleagues, and as a group, you will meet 6 times, either in person or online, at a time you all agree on.

What's included
Requirements
- Be an active teacher, school leader, or education assistant
- Interest in experimenting with AI (no prior experience required)
- Availability to participate in session 0, tutorials, and peer sessions
Course syllabus
Session 1: Getting to know each other and the AI ecosystem
- • Map today's ecosystem: general chatbots (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and teacher apps (MagicSchool, Califica), and when each one makes sense
- • Generate a first real resource with AI and discuss it critically with your circle
- • Build core habits: opening new conversations, giving good context, and always reviewing before using
Session 2: Context engineering
- • Replace the idea of the “perfect prompt” with giving good context, as you would to a colleague who just joined your school
- • Practice concrete techniques: dictating with the microphone, separating instructions from materials, showing examples of the expected output
- • Ask the AI itself to critique and improve your request before asking for the final product
Session 3: AI as a thinking partner
- • Move from “give me the answer” to “help me think”: iterate, question assumptions, and compare alternatives
- • Design your own AI collaborator with a defined tone, role, and behaviors (one that isn't sycophantic and proposes several options)
- • Reuse it on a real task and compare styles with your circle
Session 4: Limitations, sources, and verification
- • Recognize when AI sounds confident but is wrong: hallucinations and context-window limits
- • Work with your own documents in NotebookLM and verify citations with judgment
- • Decide when to open a new conversation, when to use sources, and when to turn on extended reasoning
Session 5: Designing better learning experiences
- • Build your personal library of archetypes: role-based debates, stations, simulations, thinking routines
- • Enrich the catalog with your circle, leveraging the diversity of grade levels and subjects
- • Redesign a traditional activity as a conversational experience or interactive artifact
Session 6: Practical ethics and responsible delegation
- • Decide what to delegate to AI, what to only assist with, and what requires direct human judgment
- • Analyze real dilemmas: communication with families, feedback to students, privacy of minors
- • Agree on responsible-use criteria with your circle and commit to a concrete first step for your context
Meet the instructor

Sebastián Marambio
Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, high school mathematics teacher, and former director of the Innovation Center at the Chilean Ministry of Education. He is the founder of Circles and an artificial intelligence instructor.
